URBNarc has provided pro bono design and master planning services for a 2.2 Hectare community of 169 homes including a Community Centre, Enterprise Centre and Child Care facility for homeless families.
The project as been developed by Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE) in partnership with STEP (Solutions to End Poverty).
Gaurang Khemka is on the board of STEP and has been involved with SMILE Village from its early days of conception to now.
Low cost robust homes have been designed in partnership with Grenzone using pre-fabricated materials. Grenzone staff have involved the families themselves to construct the homes ensuring a transfer of construction skills – it is hoped that the family members will thus be able to find new jobs in the emerging construction industry in Cambodia.
The master planning has been done to create a sense of community and a sense of completion at each phase of completion.
Project is currently under construction, Phase 1 opened in September 2015.
Project partners: PSE, STEP, Billion Bricks, Grenzone.
